This is a sample of some of the smaller projects I work on in my free time. (Note: Last Update around 2016)
I've historically been bad at remembering to photograph my projects in the past. Between that and a stolen laptop and broken iPod (before I learned to use cloud storage) these represent only the most recent results of over a decade of tinkering and building. Space Bed The bed pictured on the left took me a few hours to design and a few days to build. I designed it so that from any point in the room the supporting structure was hidden and it looked like it was floating, especially with the LEDs turned on. My favorite feature of the bed was the switch: I attached a pull cord switch (like the ones on ceiling fans) to the smallest of the vertical boards on the headboard, so that to turn it on all you need to do is pull on it. |
HyperloopThrough Design U, I lead the user experience design of the University of Minnesota's Hyperloop team. I ended up coming up with most of the architecture on my own including what I think the best idea for loading is: Riders load up in a nice open station, on a platform with seats. Many of these can be queued up in a row at the same time, like a log flume. The bases also hold large battery packs that are recharged while in the station. They then slide in sideways, re-vacuum the airlocked portion of the tunnel, and then blast off.
I was also severely outvoted in my efforts to name this the "Gopherloop," which although understandable is still something I stand by. |
RepRap Paul BunyanI wanted to design a 3D printer that used cheap and thermally stable hardwood plywood as the main structural component. This was abandoned shortly after taking entry level mechanical engineering courses.

HeadphonesI designed these in Solidworks and rendered using 3ds Max for a product design class. I've been using Solidworks very regularly for nearly a decade now and I'm constantly doing practice projects like this to build my chops.

Hot wire cutterDesigned to cut 2" rigid foam for a project currently in progress. I milled the parts out of aluminum and polycarbonate, and 3D printed a tensioning system for the wire.

One Legged Bed
A bed a built out of the one at the top of the page when I moved in college. Since Minnesota winter mornings are dark until far too late, I packed the headboard with 4500k LEDs to help combat seasonal depression and moderate my sleep cycle.

Graphic Design
Here are some posters I made for NOBE as well as a graphic I made in illustrator of a 3D printer I'm particularly proud of. I realize this site commits a number of graphic design atrocities but I'm really limited by the website builder.
