Older than my parents and less powerful than their push mower | 2013
In the summer of 2013, I bought an old 175CC Honda motorcycle from ebay for $300. It had no brakes, no wiring, and the old gold paint was nearly indistinguishable from the rust. I had no idea what I was doing, but I had the service manual and I wanted a challenge.
My first step was taking everything off, and I mean everything. The picture on the right shows the frame just about stripped clean and ready to be sandblasted. I cleaned or replaced each part down to the individual bolts. I used a small handheld blaster hooked up to a compressor in my backyard, and then I used my longboard spray booth to do the painting. Most of the body work after that was filling in dents and polishing chrome. I found a huge junkyard a few towns away where I was able to get parts to repair the carbs and electronics, and since the previous owner had purchased a lot of spare parts in preparation to restore it, I only needed to buy the tires new. |
